hollaaaaaaaaaaa when you see THE BIG BLACK COMEDY.

Friday night, December 3rd, I attended The Big
Black Comedy tapping kickoff @ The Wadsworth Theatre
in Westwood, CA. I heard that this show was Co-
Executive produced by Ralph Farquhar, hit maker
creator of a stream of popular sitcoms, The Parkers,
The Proud Family, Moesha, and now Second Time Around.
Ralph knows TV comedy, but stand-up is an altogether
different flava in that it can’t be cleaned
up like on film.
There are no intervening production takes and re-takes,
pat me downs and filters so it will appeal to the
red states in America. It just is what it is @#$$$,
free flowing mouth o'plenty art form full of spontaneity
and audience interaction.
Well, trust me the Ralph knows talent and he has
put together some of the most free-styling comedians
out there, some new to the scene and some veterans
too, bringing about a show that will keep the audience
ballin' with laughter. At this taping, the second
in a series of tapings (the first featured the great
and wonderful Mo’Nique), his line-up included
newcomer D. Ray Robinson, Annie Mcknight who recently
co-starred in the film Hair Show. Joe Torrey, who
also starred in Hair Show, veteran actor and BET
comedian Michael Collier and hot comedy sensation
Rodney Perry to name a few.
What I heard and saw was “funnier than the
funnies" to quote legendary stand-up comedian/actor
Eddie Murphy. The audience this night was hooked
to every line because it was so real. When Annie
McKnight came to the stage to do her skit, telling
it like it is about gorgeous wives and their tip-toeing
cheating husbands citing Vanessa Williams and Halle
Berry as cases in point, I found myself laughing
till there were teeeears. All I can say is that
this show is ballin.
Ralph Farquhar known for his up all night and day
work ethic along with his entire production team
have another hilarious hit comedy under their belt
with The Big Black Comedy. The Big Black Comedy
lives up to its reputation so get ready to open
your mouth and roar.
If your slow and don’t get the jokes, just
do what Comedian Michael Collier says to do, laugh...then,
think about the punch line once you get home. The
show is about to embark on a tour. When it comes
to your city, go see it. The Big Black Comedy will
also be available on DVD soon.
