LOON CONTINUED

Loon Vs Mase, the whole thing could just be hype: But I don’t think nobody is buying it, you know. I want to put it out there. Mase did something really greezy in the hood and he ran to church to hide. I don’t think he ever was sincerely involved with the congregation or the church. I think he just sat there until the coast was clear, and now he’s is back here on that bullshit again. But this time it is definitely going to come to an abrupt halt because I’m not going to sit around and just keep allowing false prophets coming out of Harlem. I think right now I am going to give myself a mission to just weed out all of the corny shit that could ever come out of Harlem. Any corny Nigga who could ever misrepresent my town I am taking my own personal initiative to see that that never happens.

Current state of Bad Boy: Honestly, the way I feel about Bad Boy is like the way I feel about my ex-girl, I’m over it. Puff lost a lot of influential people in his company; a lot of people that actually made it happen are no longer there. What the world is seeing for once in 12 years is Puff making decisions. I just see Bad Boy not really having any luck with the music, just based on the infrastructure, you know? I can’t say that Puff isn’t capable of making music or making hit records, I would never want to make him sound like he is incompetent, but at the end of the day, being honest with the world and myself, I just don’t really see hope over there unless he gets some help. Or start empowering people to do these things that these people are capable of doing. Nobody gets a shot by themselves, what’s the point of having a business card with a position on it, might as well just have a name on it and say Bad Boy.

I have nothing against Puff, I don’t have nothing against Bad Boy I just kind of discovered that I came here whole heartedly to try to be a part of the legacy and rebuild and refurbish a whole infrastructure in the music business and you know, it just turned into me putting fuel in some level and that was selfish. So here I am bossing up. That’s a good thing because once you get over certain humps you feel like you can do anything. So it’s like I have had the opportunity, thanks to Puff, to travel the world, perform in front of 80,000 people, you know, I’ve had screaming fans, obsessed females, deranged Nigga’s, I mean I have just endured what came with the success of being with Bad Boy, and I am grateful for it, but now is my opportunity to be my own man and I am just thrilled about it.

Most important advice somebody gave you about the music game: Not to expect so much from these people in the music industry. I got that jewel from somebody who had influence in the streets and influence in the music industry. I was told “Loon, being that you are coming from a whole different environment and a whole different upbringing, you can’t expect a lot from these people in the industry because you are not cut from the same cloth”. So that is why I can leave any situation with some level of, it’s cool. Basically anybody who is trying to get in this game, all the expectations are your own, you know what I’m saying? Challenge yourself, any expectations you create should be your own. Don’t expect anything from nobody because nobody moves in this business until you prove that you are worthy and that’s my view for the public service announcement.

How do you keep grounded: I stay with my family. I stick to things that got me there. It’s painful to see a lot of young brothers lose their ground because it’s very easy to get caught up in this business, it’s very easy to get self absorbed, it’s very easy to think more highly of yourself than you should, or whatever the case may be. This game is set up to detour your train of thought. It is designed to steal real substance from you and replace it with fake substance. So you got to maintain what is real. You got to stick with your family, with your loved ones. You got to stay grounded with the Nigga’s you came up with or with your homies from the hood or anyone that was all for you, you got to show them that you appreciate that. Trying to keep up with the Joneses, you will end up with your people anyway, so you might as well just keep them close, cause do good or do bad they are going to be there.

What’s next for Loon: Everything, I have reality shows I’m working on, I got a movie I’m working on, I’m working on an independent film that me and my partner Troy Reid put together. Solely an independent film, straight outta the pocket called the Willie Satch Story. Damon Dash gave me a shot on State Property 2, and I had a special guest appearance in Death of a Dynasty, that’s where I acquired the taste of film. My godfather, the late George Jackson produced New Jack City and A Thin Line between Love and Hate. The film industry has always been like light around the corner for me but I had never embraced it, that’s why it’s so ironic that I ended up doing music. Maybe all the camera I didn’t get messing with Puff, all those photo ops, I can get all that back through film. I also look at it as a great way to show multiple impressions of myself, the opportunity to show different emotional transitions.

Whip round

Three things you couldn’t live without: My family, God, and my cell phone.

Fears: Failing my family, God, and my cell phone.

Most romantic thing someone would have to do to get your attention: Wow. I would say it would have to be something public, something broadcast because it’s so easy to slip a line into someone’s ear that has so much meaning off the radar, I think that something on the radar, something like broadcast love like shit, I could be on a game or something, like that would have me, I would just drop everybody.

Closing statement: To everybody in the hip hop industry; cut the shit man, this is all we got, let’s make it hot. You know what I mean, let’s not fuck it up, this is our bread and butter and this is what makes us who we are. If we lose our identity again, because they say we are generation X, but we know who we are. In order for that to be a reality in our elder’s minds, we really have to hone in and know what we got going for ourselves. We go through this million dollar industry just being kids, being artists, and gradually artists are starting to merge with bigger corporations and take the entrepreneurial opportunities, that’s what thrills me and keeps me enthused about the game.
