Neo-Soul singer Maiya Sykes produces “The Light” at the former Opium Den space @ The Ivar Theatre in Hollywood

The beautiful 26-year-old who became a familiar face to millions from VH-1 “Bands on the Run” is keepin’ it real by showcasing talent that is not studio processed. This will be a place for artists to shine and Hollywood’s newest hot spot. Curtain goes up on ‘The Light’ Thursday, March 09 th @ 8:00PM

Neo-Soul Artist, Maiya Sykes, the beautiful long haired hazel-eye cutie formerly on the reality series VH-1 “Bands on the Run” is still keeping it real by producing a now and in the moment live-showcase of some of the best talent in Hollywood. Her new show billed as The Light is a sequel to her successful concert Equinox that highlighted many bands about a year ago. This time Maiya has expanded on that concept by focusing on new and emerging talent one at a time in art forms that include not only music, but also adding the visual art component. Maiya plans on having different genres of bands on different days, Tuesday, singer songwriter night, Wednesday Rock night and Thursday Hip Hop/R&B night with a different visual artist’s work on display. Her new show will be presented at the Ivar Theatre’s Brick Box Space (formerly the Opium Den, entrance on Cosmo St.), located at 1605 North Ivar on Thursday, March 09 th @ 8:00PM. Tickets $10.00

“I want to make The Light a hot spot that people can come and hear great talent and see the work of talented visual artists, in the city, at an affordable ticket price. Because I am only featuring one band and one artist, I will be able to pay these new talents that might not ordinarily get exposure or compensation for their performances. It is hard to make a living as an artist. Usually clubs charge the band in the hundreds just for a group to perform. I feel that needs to change and that’s why The Light is so important” says Maiya.

Maiya will screen each band personally to make sure that The Light will present the best of the best. Each night after the set, there will be a catered post-party and specially made Martinis and specially bottled water, exclusive to her venue. She wants to recognize real talent, people who can really sing, play the piano and showcase work that is worthy of an audience and that also stations them above studio talent. Maiya Sykes hopes to break the illusions created by studios by producing reality and allowing artists to take back their power to create and put the soul back in the work. The Light will be a nouveau experience for both artist and audience.

The first show will feature Jd Webb a singer/ songwriter hailed by Rolling Stone as a “prolific songwriter. Webb is a multi-faceted artist with the ability to cross all generational, cultural and social boundaries through his songs. The Light will also feature visual artist Edith Abeyta, who has exhibited work throughout Los Angeles and nationally.  She has received a public commission from the Regional Arts and Culture Council of Oregon and currently is a board member of the Arroyo Arts Collective. The Light will bring these incredible artists to the fore so others can enjoy their creative accomplishments. The Light promises to be the new hotspot in LA. Many celebrities will attend opening night. Maiya Sykes will have an opportunity to sing also along with Angela Calo in JD’s set.

Maiya recently performed at Carnegie Hall. She is also finishing work on a new CD with an electronica group called the Side-Street Players.

Syloft Entertainment co-produces The Light.
